Born on January 1926, 19, Azizkhan was the third child and the second son in the family of the famous teacher Polatjon Kayyumi from Kokand. It was no coincidence that two famous literary scholars grew up from this enlightened family. A. Qayumov studied under skilled teachers at the 3rd secondary school in Kokon, and because of his passion for poetry since childhood, he also became a student of the national poet of Uzbekistan Charkhi Domla. During World War II, he entered the Faculty of Oriental Languages (now ToshShI) of the Central Asian State University (now UzMU) (1944). Here he studied with such famous orientalists as Bertels and Arends. Academician V. Yu. Seeing the talent in young Azizkhan, Zohidov offered him a job at the Institute of Oriental Studies named after FA Beruniy of the UZR, despite the fact that he was still a student, and there he continued his work as a scientific employee and scientific secretary (1949-1957). V. Zohidov and A. Kayumov's sincere mentorship continued for a lifetime.
Later, during the years when Aziz Polatovich worked in various high positions in the field of science, education and culture (Director of the Institute of Language and Literature, Head of Department at the Ministry of Culture of Uzbekistan, Minister of Culture, Chairman of the State Committee of Cinematography, Rector of the Institute of Culture), he always did honest and effective work in the direction of Uzbek science, culture and enlightenment. carried out. During his long-term (1979-1998) leadership at the Institute of Manuscripts named after H. Sulaymon, FA (former) of the Republic of Uzbekistan, he was able to create a unique scientific school and environment in the field of literary source studies and textual studies. Currently, many scientists who have contributed to the development of science and education by working in various scientific research institutions and higher education institutions of our Republic are truly students of the teacher. As a leading researcher at the State Literary Museum named after Ustoz Alisher Navoi, he mentored young people and became an example on the scientific front.
In 1954, Azizkhan Kayumov, who defended his doctoral dissertation in 1962, was elected a full member of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 1995.
Ustoz A. Kayumov was a wide-ranging scientist. For many years, he has been fulfilling the noble goal of making the young generation enjoy the centuries-old pages of our literary heritage. In the works created by the scientist, materials related to Uzbek literature from the first Turkish written monuments to the end of the 1977th century have been researched. For example, the teacher is one of the authors of the five-volume volume "History of Uzbek Literature" (1979-1956), "Makhmur" (1957), "Hoziq" (1959), "Ghozi" (1961), "Literary environment of Ko'kan (XVIII-XIX centuries) ” (1972); on the study of ancient written monuments - "Monuments of antiquity" (1973), "Beruni and literary creation" (1987), "Beruni and Ibn Sina" (1975); About Alisher Navoi's work - "Saddi Iskandari" (1977), "Hayratul-Abror Taqini" (1979), "Farhad and Sweet Secrets" (1985), "Ishq Vodysi Chechaklari" (1976,1991), "Alisher Navoi" (1991) ), "Rare pages" (1993), "Bu ahang ila bolgasen Naqshband" (2007); About Babur - he published the monograph "Babur's art" (co-authored with S. Hasanov) (2008), "Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur" (2009), "Literary environment of Andijan during Babur's time" (XNUMX) and pamphlets; Also, the scientist's works on the life and works of Ahmad Farghani, Najmuddin Kubro, Amir Temur, Abdurrahman Jami, Ogahi, and Furqat have also gained wide attention.
A. Kayumov was at the forefront of publishing and promoting our classic works. During the period of the former Shura, when the attitude towards the personality and work of Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur was cold, the first two (1957,1958, 3) editions of his poems in the form of separate books in Uzbekistan and the first of 1965 volumes of his works (with S. Azimjonova, 1988) were carried out by A. Qayumov. For the first time, he prepared for publication the poems of Makhmur, Uvaisiy, Nadira, two tazkirs of P. Qayyumi and "The history of Koqan and his literature", he also edited many publications of our literary heritage. Also, in the last century, Ibn Sina participated in the translation of the "Laws of Medicine" from Arabic, and the two-volume catalog of the Institute of Manuscripts published under his scientific editorship (89-1998) was awarded the International Imam Bukhari Prize (2000). Also published in Moscow "Biblioteka mirovoy literatruri" and "Biblioteka poeta. It was A. Kayumov who prepared Navoi's works in Russian for the "Bolshaya seria" books. Also, the literary part of the books "World Literature" and "Culture of Central Asia" published by UNESCO was written by the teacher (France, XNUMX).
It can be said that teacher A. Kayumov's long-term research, which made a worthy contribution to the study of our national literary studies, was reflected in his works consisting of 10 volumes (12 books) (Tashkent: Mumtaz soz, 2008-2013). It should be noted that not only among Uzbek, but also among world literary scholars, there are very few scholars who have published such multi-volume works.
Scientist Alisher Navoi devoted several volumes to the study of his life and creative heritage. He is one of the most prolific experts in 1th century narratology. Volume 3 of "Works" (two books) included researched works of the great poet's masterpiece "Khamsa". However, another study dedicated to "Khamsa" is from the 2rd volume of "Khamsa Titles", and these works as a whole can give a vivid impression of the great epics of the great thinker. The author's works on Navoi's lyrical legacy ("Khazayin-ul-maoni" and two previous divans) are also interesting, including "Badoyi'-ul-bidoya", "Navodir-un-nihoya", "Badoye'-ul-wasat", " The composition of Favoyid-ul-kibar'' divans, the artistry and meanings of ghazal and other genre works are described (Volumes 3, 4 and XNUMX).
The fifth volume of "Works" is dedicated to Babur, the sixth to Uzbek literature of the XNUMXth century and Huwayda, the seventh to the literary environment of Koqan, the eighth to Agahi, Kamil and Furqat, the ninth to al-Khwarizmi, Ahmad Farghani, Beruni and Ibn Sina, and the tenth volume ancient written monuments, stories about Amir Temur, Shahrukh and Ulugbek Mirza, and Turkish literature in India.
It should be noted that the author critically looked at some of his previously created works and included them in this multivolume with several revisions. This is evidence of his broad and impartial approach to scientific work. For example, there is a significant difference between A. Kayumov's 1961 work on the literary environment of Kokhan, which was the basis of his doctoral dissertation, and the study of the same name, which consists of two books in "Works". This publication reflects new views as well as new information discovered later.
It should also be noted that not all of A. Qayumov's multi-volume works are pure scientific research. Some of them are essays or novels, or even narrative works. For example, "Alisher Navoi. The lives of famous figures" (Vol. 4, pp. 185-194), "Zahiriddin Muhammad Babur. Pictures of the poet's life" (Vol. 5, pp. 206-258), "Chimyonli poet Huvaido" (Vol. 6, pp. 192-294), "Poet Furqat" (Vol. 8, pp. 111-287 ), "Ahmad Farghani", "Abu Rayhan Beruni", "Abu Ali ibn Sina" (Vol. 8) are essays and biographical stories. The 8th volume also contains the scientist's story "In the Footsteps of Beruniy", which is a purely artistic work about modern youth interested in the legacy of scholars. That is, in these places, A. Kayumov's writing skills can be seen along with his scientific knowledge. For example, his historical essay "The Poet Furqat" is quite different from other studies and works written about the artist. In it, the author tries to illuminate the life and creative path of the poet based on biographical materials. At the same time, the artistic texture and lyrical digressions give the work a special tone and make it quick and easy to understand. Apparently, A. Qayumov pays attention to Furqat's position as a poet, and illuminates his life along the way, sometimes through biographical and sometimes fictional events. However, the research about the poet "Sheriyat Jhilalari" (1997) was one of the important results of the scientist's contribution to the study of poetry.
In general, academician A. Kayumov has published more than 500 books, pamphlets and articles. The master scientist also worked effectively in the field of scientific personnel training. For several years, he chaired a specialized board under the Institute of Manuscripts, which led to the discovery of many worthy researchers and scholars. He himself supervised more than ten candidacy and doctoral theses.
Azizkhan Domla was also a talented poet. Many of his poems written under the pen name "Azizi" are well-known, including dozens of tributes to Navoi's ghazals (Obeisance to Navoi. Books 1 and 2003, 2005-XNUMX).
One of the wonderful and exemplary qualities of a teacher is his constant loyalty to his teachers. "Akademik Gafur Ghulom", "Akademik Oybek", "Akademik V. Zohidov" and other memoirs about a number of famous scientists of the XNUMXth century, written by him, also came to the public's attention.
At the same time, AP Kayumov's services as a deputy of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan (1995-2000) and his activities in the ranks of the "National Revival" party are well known to intellectuals.
The respected scientist was awarded the Beruni State Award (1980), the honorary title "Distinguished Scientist of Uzbekistan" (1983), the "Fame" medal (1996), "Respect of the Country" (2003) and He was awarded the Order of Merit (2014).
Academician Azizkhan Qayumov died on February 2018, 17.
