Coronavirus: Can a smartphone also be a carrier of infection?

A cell phone that is used almost nowhere can be a source of bacteria and viruses that cause various infections. Health Minister Alisher Shodmonov said in an interview with Uzbekistan 15 on March 24 that smartphones and TV consoles could contain many viral infections and should be cleaned regularly.

Why can a cell phone be a carrier of an infection? There are several main reasons for this:

• the cell phone is often handed out. The owner does not always hold it with washed, clean hands;

• the mobile phone is brought very close to the face during the conversation;

• most also go to the bathroom by phone. This place is very "rich" in various pathogens.

Cell phone flu may play a particularly important role as a transmitter of other viral respiratory infections, including COVID-19 coronavirus infection pathogens.

How to avoid infection?

The first: strict hand hygiene should be followed. After being in public places and going to the toilet, hands should be washed thoroughly for 20 seconds and then thoroughly dried with disposable paper towels. It is advisable to carry an antiseptic wipe and liquid means (gel, spray, etc.) with you. Then it is possible to keep them clean even in situations where it is impossible to wash hands.

The second: the phone should be cleaned regularly with antiseptic agents. In this case, special attention should be paid to the location of the body of the gadget on the face. If there is a case on the smartphone, it should be removed during cleaning and the case should be treated separately (it is better not to use the case at all).

Alcohol-based wipes and gels should be used to combat ORVI and influenza viruses.

The phone should be treated with antiseptic after going to public places, after using public transport, and in the evening - even after the end of the working day.
