June 16 is the day when Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman to fly into space.
Tereshkova (Nikolaeva) Valentina Vladimirovna cosmonaut-pilot was born on March 1937, 6 in the village of Maslennikovo, Yaroslavl, in a working class family. In 1970, he became an engineer-colonel, and on June 1962, 22, he was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union. He graduated from the Air Force Academy of Engineering named after NEZhukovsky in 1969. He practiced parachuting at the Yaroslavl aeroclub and jumped 163 times. On June 1963-16, 19, she was the first woman to fly into space. The Vostok-6 spacecraft orbited the Earth 48 times and flew a distance of 70 million km in 41 hours and 2 minutes. In 1968, she was chair of the Women's Committee, and in 1969, vice-president of the International Federation of Democratic Women, a member of the World Peace Council. He was awarded orders, medals, as well as foreign orders. The crater at the back of the moon is named after Tereshkova.
