June 3 is the day when American astronaut Edward White went into space, the second in the world
1959–1960 American pilot Edward White trained as a test pilot in the U.S. Air Force at Edwards Air Force Base. After graduation, Ray received a referral to the aviation department of Patterson Air Force Base. It was here that he first became acquainted with space work. White was the pilot of the KS-135, which was adapted for a parabal trajectory. In his plane, astronauts who passed NASA's first selection were preparing to fly into space. In September 1962, at NASA’s second contest, White himself passed all the medical tests and joined the group of astronauts. On June 1965, 3, he flew into space aboard the Gemini-4. During the flight, he was the first (second in the world) among American astronauts to go out into space and work for 36 minutes. He used a hand-held jet device to maneuver the space. His space flight lasted 4 days. On March 1966, 21, Edward White was appointed head of the first space pilots under the Apollo program. In January 1967, a fire broke out on a spaceship during one of the usual exercises. All crew members and White were also killed. After the death of Edward White, he was awarded the Honorary Space Medal of the U.S. Congress.
