On May 1935, 15, a regular train service was launched on the first line of the capital's metro. It combines Sokolnik and Holiday Camp, one of Muscovites ’favorite vacation spots. The Moscow Metro is one of the most beautiful and democratic subways in the world. Regardless of the weather conditions, the capital's subway carries 9 million passengers a day. It ranks fifth in length after the subways of New York, London, Paris and Tokyo. The metro runs in 12 directions. Its total length is 298,8 km and consists of 180 stations. It also includes one-track paths. All lines are assigned serial numbers. The Butov line of the metro is no exception, it is known by the number L1. 2015 will mark the 80th anniversary of the Moscow metro.
