A book dedicated to the 2700th anniversary of Karshi was also published. The book is written in English and will be a useful source of information for foreign visitors, tourists and tourists who want to get acquainted with the history of our country. It describes the historical monuments of Karshi and their history. Karshi (Behbudi in 1926-37) is a city in the Kashkadarya region (since 1926), the regional center (since 1943). In the center of the Kashkadarya oasis, on the banks of the Kashkadarya, at the intersection of international railways and highways. The area is 7,5 thousand hectares. Population 220 thousand people (2005). Kashkadarya is one of the ancient cities of Uzbekistan. It was called Bolo, Nashebolo, Nakhshab, Nasaf at different times and was called Kashkadarya in the XNUMXth century. There are different opinions and assumptions about the origin of the name "Karshi". VVBartold points out that the name of the city is connected with "Karshi" (meaning "palace" in ancient Turkish) built by the Mongol khan Kepakhon. In the epic Qutadg'u Bilig (Knowledge That Leads to Happiness), the term Karshi is used to mean "palace" and "opposition." The Boburnoma also states that the name is derived from the Mongolian language. In the above assumptions, the term "against" - palace, tower - is used more often. The first city in the Kashkadarya oasis was formed in the 7th century BC on the site of Yerkurgan under the name "Nakhshab" (a place where water was developed, water was patterned) and was surrounded by a fortress wall (this fortress a The remains of the walls were studied by archaeologists in 1999). Another name for the city, Novtak - Navtaka - is also interpreted as a new building. In the 6th century BC, the city expanded and was surrounded by an inner wall (still preserved), covering an area of 35 hectares. The city was destroyed during the Alexander the Great invasion. Since then, its status as a leading city in the oasis has declined. In the III-II centuries BC, the city was surrounded by an outer fortress wall (with an area of 150 hectares). In the II-I centuries (on the territory of the present railway station) the fortress of Zahhoki Moron was built, which received the status of a new military-political center. This fortress also took the name of Nakhshab and gradually expanded (its remains are now called Shulluktepa). The Kidaris moved their residence to the new Nakhshab in 468. In 710, the Arabs conquered the city (pronounced “Nasaf” in Nahshab Arabic) and the surrounding areas. In the IX-XIII centuries Nakhshab (Nasaf) developed socio-economically and culturally. In the XNUMXth century, Nasaf hosted a scientific congress in the Muslim world of that time - "Majlis Tadris".
