September 11 is Teachers' Day in Argentina
A teacher is a professional who embodies the sources of spirituality and morality. In Argentina, Teachers ’Day is widely celebrated every year on September 11, and this holiday is one of the most important celebrations of the nation. Teachers ’Day is a national holiday across the country and is a day off in educational institutions. This date is important not only by thanking teachers, but also by Argentines on the day of the death of the country’s former president, public enlightener Domingo Faustino Sarmiento (1811-1888).
During his tenure (1868-1874) as a teacher-president, Sarmyento initiated many reforms in the field of education, making an unprecedented contribution to the history of education in the country. He founded Naval and Military Educational Institutions. He opened Forestry Schools in San Juane, Mendoza, Salta and Tukuman. President Sarmyento has also established primary schools in many parts of the country. During his tenure in the country, training programs for teachers began to operate. The teacher-president supported the creation of training schools for teachers.
In Argentina, Teacher’s Day is one of my favorite professional holidays. On this day, all teachers receive congratulations from their students. Students give them flowers and other gifts. The teacher is not only a teacher of science, but he is a disseminator of goodness and a herald of eternity. He plays the role of a unique person in the upbringing of the younger generation. Their knowledge and experience, their legacy of traditions and their innovation are at the heart of every school’s activities.
