Resolution of the Fatwa Board of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan on the amount of zakat in 2020

It is known that zakat is one of the pillars of Islam, and it is obligatory for a person who has reached the nisab to pay it once a year. Normally, the amount of nisab was announced annually by the Fatwa Board of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan during the month of Ramadan. However, today, due to the quarantine in our country to prevent the spread of the coronavirus pandemic around the world, including in our country, it is no longer possible to leave the house unnecessarily.

Naturally, at such a time there was a need to support the part of the population in need of financial assistance, and at the same time it is a rewarding practice. In such a situation, it is a good deed for the wealthy to give the zakat of their wealth to the deserving.

With this in mind, the Fatwa Board of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan decided to issue the zakat nisab in the month of Sha'ban. The month of Sha'ban is also one of the virtuous months. In addition, in the current probationary period, giving zakat will be even more beneficial to the needy, which will increase the reward of zakat several times.

The Fatwa Board of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan, taking into account that the current average price of 1 gram of gold is 250 (two hundred and fifty thousand) soums, for 000 AD (2020 AH) ZAKAT nisabini (85 g. of gold) 21 250 000 (twenty one million two hundred fifty thousand) soums. Forty-one (1/40) of this value, that is, the part that is deducted for zakat 531 250 (five hundred thirty one thousand two hundred fifty) soums.

Accordingly, for a year in addition to the necessary needs 21 250 000 (twenty one million two hundred fifty thousand) It is obligatory for a Muslim who has more than UZS to give one-fortieth (1/40) of his total wealth as zakat to the poor and needy.

May Allah bless the generosity of the rich and satisfy the poor, and may He, by His mercy, soon eradicate this evil from our heads. Amen!
