JPEG has gained popularity with its flexible data compression capabilities. If necessary, you can save the image in high quality. Every time an image is saved, its quality decreases as the compression algorithm is used.

GIF (Graphics Exchange Format) does not boast color depth (8 bits). It can store compressed images without loss of up to 256 colors. One of the features of GIF is that it supports animation.

This format is designed as a substitute for a GIF. PNG stands for portable network graphics. Unlike GIF, PNG supports transparency gradation due to an additional alpha channel (meaning searching for background images in this format). On the outside, PNG files are almost indistinguishable from JPEG images. PNG compresses without data loss. If transparency is important to you, it’s a good idea to choose this format.

The BMP (bitmap) format is one of the first graphics formats and is not very popular at the moment. BMP stores images up to 64 bits in color depth. This format supports transparency, but some Microsoft programs cannot read it. In other words, it is better to convert BMP files to another format.
