What is the liability for defamation?

☑️ The law provides for administrative and criminal liability for defamation, i.e. knowingly spreading lies and fabrications that embarrass another person.

❕ In particular, the Code of Administrative Responsibility (https://lex.uz/docs/97664#197981) stipulates that a fine from 6 million 600 thousand to 19 million 800 thousand soums will be imposed on a person who defames .

⏩ If this offense is committed after an administrative penalty has been applied, it is punishable by a fine of up to 66 million soums or up to 300 hours of compulsory community service or up to 2 years of correctional work.

🔰If defamation is published or reproduced in any other way, including in the mass media, telecommunication networks, or on the Internet, this act is considered a crime (https://lex.uz/docs/111453#262239) and is guilty of:

▫️fine from 66 million to 132 million soums;
▫️300 to 360 hours of compulsory community service;
▫️2 to 3 years of correctional work;
▫️ may be punished with restriction of freedom for up to 1 year.

✅ Defamation if:

➖ accused of committing a serious or extremely serious crime;
➖ causing serious consequences;
➖ by a dangerous recidivist;
If it is done out of malice or other low intentions:

▫️fine from 99 million to 165 million soums;
▫️360 to 400 hours of compulsory community service;
▫️A sentence of restriction of freedom from 1 to 3 years can be imposed.
