Among the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), Abu Yusuf Abdullah ibn Salam ibn Harith al-Israa'il al-Ansari (may Allaah be pleased with him) has a special status. This man is one of the well-known scholars of the Jews of Medina, whose lineage goes back to the descendants of Yusuf ibn Ya'qub.
After the migration of our Prophet Abdullah (saas) to Medina, he converted to Islam in his presence. According to the commentators, the verses in Surat ar-Ra'd and Surat al-Ahqaf of the Qur'an were revealed about him. He narrated twenty-five hadiths from the Noble Messenger. Some Islamic historians add him to the list of participants in the Trench and subsequent expeditions. He took part in the conquests of Al-Maqdis and Al-Jabiyah with 'Umar. He sided with him in the conspiracy against 'Uthman.
According to the books of Siyarat, before Islam, this man named Husayn ibn Salam was a Jewish scholar famous in Yathrib. He was respected not only by his fellow believers, but by all, regardless of race, lineage, or religion. He was known for his justice, honesty, and piety. When he learned of the coming of a new prophet from the Torah, he came to the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and proclaimed his Islam. The Noble Messenger named him Abdullah. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) then tested his people on the advice of 'Abdullah.
The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) hid 'Abdullah in a room and invited the Jewish chiefs and elders to his presence and invited them to convert to Islam. When they refused, he asked, "What is the rank of Husayn ibn Salam among you?" “He is the son of our religious leader and chief of our tribe. He is both a guide and a theologian in our religious affairs, and his father is such a leader and scholar, ”the Jews replied.
The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) then asked them, 'If you hear that he is a Muslim, will you convert to Islam?' The Jewish elders said, "God forbid, he cannot accept Islam. God has protected him from becoming a Muslim."
However, when Ibn Salam came out of hiding and announced to his tribe that he had become a Muslim, they became furious and shouted, “You are a liar! I swear to God, you are the child of the calamity that befell us and the child of the calamity! You are ignorant and you are the child of ignorance! ” Then they began to accuse Ibn Salam of all his sins.
Through this example, Allah has shown His Prophet and all subsequent generations of Muslims that those who are unbelievers and stubborn when called to faith are ready for any lie, deception, deceit and hypocrisy in order not to acknowledge the truth of Islam.
There are points in this incident that Muslims need to think about. The truth of the word of Allah and the instructions of His Messenger about the nature of those who are stubborn and misguided who do not want to acknowledge the truth of Islam will be proven at every historical stage.
Unfortunately, as in ancient and medieval times, some religious figures and politicians in the modern West often choose the path of conflict with Islam and Muslims. Their activities will be aimed at permanently alienating Muslims, rather than solving the problems facing society together with Muslims and engaging in dialogue with them. Their animosity towards Muslims is so strong that they are ready to discredit even their best representatives for a single step towards rapprochement with Muslims.
Without realizing it, they seem to be speaking in the language of the elders of the tribe of 'Abdullah ibn Salam: "Only the worst of us believed in Muhammad (pbuh) and followed him." However, regarding those who embraced the Truth and embraced Islam in spite of the persecution and hatred of their tribes, Allah said: “Not all of them are equal. Among the People of the Book is a righteous people who prostrate at night and recite the verses of Allah. They believe in God and the Last Day, enjoin what is right, forbid what is wrong, and hasten to good. They are among the righteous. ”(Ali Imran, verses 113-114)
Sa'd ibn Abu Waqqas (may Allaah be pleased with him) narrated that I did not hear the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) say to anyone who is walking on earth now except Abdullah ibn Salam that he is in Paradise. Allah has sent down the verse (صلى الله عليه وسلم) about him:
Qays ibn 'Abbas (may Allaah be pleased with him) narrated that when I was in the mosque of Madinah, a man (' Abdullah ibn Salam) came in who was clearly afraid of something. The people said, "This man is from the people of Paradise." He prayed two rak'ahs short and left the mosque. I went after him and said, "When you entered the mosque, people said, 'This man is from the people of Paradise.' He said, “By Allah, no one should talk about something he does not know. Let me tell you why they call me Paradise: I had a dream during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). Then I told him. In my dream I was standing in a green, vast garden. In the middle of the garden is an iron pillar, one end of which is on the ground and the other in the sky. There was also a knot on top of it. I was told, "Climb the pole!" was not. I said, "I can't get out." Then a servant came and lifted me by the collar of my garment and put me on a pole. I climbed on top of it and grabbed the knot. I was told, "Don't take it out of your hands." I woke up holding the knot (tightly). When I narrated my dream to the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), he said, “That garden is the garden of Islam, that pillar is the pillar of Islam (that is, the five pillars of Islam, or the word of martyrdom itself), and the knot is faith. As for yourself, you will remain steadfast in Islam until your death. ”(Imam Bukhari, Al-Jame 'as-Sahih).
As always, the prophecies of the Messenger of Allah (saw) came true: 'Abdullah ibn Salam remained faithful to Islam until the end of his life. rsatdi. Abdullah ibn Salam died in Medina in 43 AH (663 CE).
Prepared by Nazira Muhammad's daughter.
“Whoever is pleased to look at a person from the people of Paradise, let him look at Abdullah ibn Salam".
Husayn ibn Salam was one of the scholars of the Jews of Yathrib. The people of Madinah, despite their different religions and nationalities, revered him. He was known for his piety and reform among men, and was characterized by honesty and truthfulness.
Hussein lived a peaceful life, his life was meaningful and useful. He divided his time into three parts: preaching and praying in the synagogue; takes care of the palm trees in his garden; He was reading the Torah.
Each time he read the Torah, he would observe the message of the last prophet to appear in Mecca.
He would carefully study the qualities and signs of this prophet who was about to come, and he would be deeply moved by the joy. Because, according to the prophecies in the Torah, the new prophet migrated from his city to Yathrib.
Whenever he read or thought of these messages, he would ask Allah to prolong his life until he witnessed the coming of the Prophet, and to be happy to meet him, and to be the first of those who believed in him.
Allah accepted the prayer of Husayn ibn Salam. Guidance and mercy extended his life until the Prophet was sent. He had the privilege of meeting the Prophet, enjoying the conversation, and believing in the truth revealed to the Prophet. We hear the story of the conversion to Islam from Husayn himself.
“When I heard that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) had appeared, I asked him about his name, lineage, quality, time and place. I compared the descriptions of the prophet with the descriptions of the prophet in our books until I believed in success and knew the truth of his call. Then I hid these things from the Jews, and restrained my tongue from speaking of them. Until the day when the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) left Makkah for Madinah. When they came to Yathrib and descended to Quba, a man came to us and began to announce that he had come among the people. I was on a date in my garden at that moment. Ammam Khalida bint Horis was below. As soon as I heard the news, I shouted, "God is great!" "God is great." My aunt who heard my takbir; He said, "May Allah not disappoint you. By Allah, if you had heard of the coming of Musa ibn Imran, you would not have done anything more." I said to him, “Oh, he is the brother of Moses, the son of Imran, and he is in his religion. Indeed, he was sent with what Moses sent. My aunt was silent and said, "Is it a prophet whom you have informed of that which confirms what came before him and that which conveys the message of his Lord?" he asked. I said, "Yes, that's right."
He said, "Then it is so." Then I ran to the Messenger of Allah. I saw people gathered in front of his doors. I joined the crowd and even went to them. The first thing I heard from him was, "O people, greet openly, feed the hungry, and pray at night when people are asleep - then you will enter Paradise safe and sound."
I watched him closely and was always with him, making sure they weren’t lying on their faces. Then I approached him and testified, "There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah." Then he looked at me and said, "What's your name?" He said, 'I am Husayn ibn Salam.' He said, 'Abdullah ibn Salam.' Then I came to their house and called my family and children to Islam. They all converted to Islam. Despite being old, my aunt Khalida also converted to Islam.
I said, "Hide the fact that you and I have converted to Islam until I give you permission." They said, 'Yes.' Then he went to the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and said to him, 'The Jewish people are liars and liars. I wanted you to call the Jewish leaders and hide me in a room, ask me about my position among them before they knew I had converted to Islam, and invite them to Islam. Of course, if they know that I have converted to Islam, they will accuse me, insult me with all sorts of shortcomings and slander me. ” The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) admitted me to a room. Then they called them and began to call them to Islam and faith. They reported the messages in their books. They started arguing with the Messenger of Allah (saw) about the truth. I was listening. When the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) despaired of their conversion, he asked them, 'What is the position of Husayn ibn Salam among you?' they asked. They said, "He is the son of our master and chief, and the son of our scholar and scholar." The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, 'If he converts to Islam, will you convert to Islam?' they asked. They said, "God forbid, he cannot convert to Islam. Allah has prevented him from converting to Islam." I told them out; “O community of the Jews. Fear Allah and accept the religion that Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) brought you. By Allah, you know that he is the Messenger of Allah, you have found the source where his name and attributes are written. I bear witness that he is the Messenger of Allah and I believe in him. I confirm it, I recognize it. " They said, "You have lied. By Allah, you are the worst of us and the son of the worst and the ignorant and the son of the ignorant. ” There was no guilt left that did not accuse me. I said to the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him), 'Did I not tell you that the Jews are a people who are liars and liars? they are deceitful and corrupt.
Abdullah ibn Salam accepted Islam as a thirsty man drinking water. He was firmly committed to the Qur’an. He did not stop reciting. He used to follow the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) sooner or later. He began to practice himself for heaven. Even the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) preached the good news among the Companions. The gospel was narrated by Qays ibn Abbad and others. The narrator said, “I was sitting in one of the circles of knowledge in the mosques of the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) in Madinah. There was a person in the ring who excited the souls and excited the people. He used to recite influential hadiths that people liked.
When he got up, the people said, "Whoever is pleased to look at a man from the people of Paradise, let him look at this man." I said, "Who is this man?" I said. The people said, 'Abdullah ibn Salam.' I said to myself, "By God, I will follow him," and I followed. He went to the outskirts of the city and entered the address. I asked permission to enter. He allowed. After I entered and sat down:
"What do you need, nephew?" He asked.
"As you were leaving the mosque, I heard people say about you, 'Whoever is happy to look at a man from the people of Paradise, let him look at this man.' I followed you to know about you and how they knew you were from the people of Paradise.
Abdullah ibn Salom:
He said, "Allah knows the people of Paradise, my son."
Men:
"That's right, but they're not saying that in vain," I said.
Abdullah ibn Salom:
"I'll tell you why," he said.
"Tell me, may God reward you!" I said.
The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was sleeping one night when he was alive. A man came to me and said, 'Get up.' I got up, grabbed my hand, there was a path on my left, I wanted to walk away from it. The man said to me, "Don't go there, it's not for you." At that moment I saw a bright path on my right. The man said, "Follow him." I walked until I went to a beautiful, lush green garden. In the middle of it was a pillar of iron. The root was on the ground and the tip was in the sky. It had a ring of gold at the end. He said to me, "Go up to him." I said, "I can't do it." A servant came up to me and lifted me up, so I rose until I reached the pillar. I grabbed the ring with both hands. I hung on to it until dawn. In the morning, I went to the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) and told him about my dream. The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, “The way you see your left side is the way of the leftists from the people of Hell. The path you see on the right is the path of the right-hand owners from the people of Paradise. The garden that delights you with its greenness and brilliance is Islam. The pillar is the religion, the ring is the strong support, and you will hold on to it until I die. ” That is the meaning of my life, to live by this support, the rules of Islam, ”he said.
