ALT codes

An ALT code is a code whose characters are called using the Alt key and a number on the NumLock keyboard.

On personal computers running Windows or DOS operating systems, there are additional commands for entering characters that are not available using a regular keyboard. These commands are called Alt codes and are used by pressing Alt+X, where "X" is some number. To write the desired character, hold down the Alt key and without releasing it on the additional numeric keyboard (Numpad), enter the number, for example, 0185. (NumLock must be enabled to activate the optional numeric keypad.)
