Azizxon Qayumov (1926-2018)

Azizkhon Kayumov (1926.19.01, Kokand - 2018.16.02, Tashkent) - literary critic, academician of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan (1995). Honored Scientist of Uzbekistan (1983), Doctor of Philology (1961). Son of Polat Kayyumov.

He graduated from the Central Faculty of the Central Asian State University (1949). Researcher at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan (1949-57), Senior Referent on Science and Higher Education in the Council of Ministers of the USSR (1957-58), Director of the Institute of Language and Literature of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan (1958-61). Head of the Department of Educational Institutions and Schools, then Department of Science and Culture (1961-63), Minister of Culture of Uzbekistan, First Deputy Minister (1963-64), Chairman of the State Committee for Cinematography under the USSR Council of Ministers (1964-74), Rector of the Tashkent Institute of Culture ( 1974-79), director of the Institute of Manuscripts of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan (1979-98), a leading researcher at the Museum of Literature named after Alisher Navoi (since 1998).

His main scientific work is on the literary environment of Kokand. “Makhmur” (1956), “Haziq” (1957), “Ghazi” (1959), “Saddi Iskandariy” (1975), “Alisher Navoi” (1976, 1991), “Hayrat ul-abror” (1977), “ His works "Secrets of Farhod and Shirin" (1979), "Rare pages" (1991), "If you are with this melody Naqshband" (1993) made an important contribution to the study of the life and creative heritage of Alisher Navoi.

Azizhon Kayumov also worked effectively in the field of mechanical engineering and prepared for publication the works of several Uzbek classical poets. Laureate of the Beruni State Prize of Uzbekistan (1980). He was awarded the Medal of Fame (1996) and the Order of El-Yurt Hurmati (2003).
