ANSWER:
If a pregnant or breastfeeding woman fears that her child or herself will be harmed while fasting, she should not fast and then make up the missed fasts. This is stated in our authoritative sources:
Ạl̊ḥāmilu wāl̊mur̊ḍiʿu ạ̹dẖā kẖāfatā ʿalay̱ ạản̊fusihimā ạảẘ ، waladihimā ạảf̊ṭaratā waqaḍatā ، walā kafãạraẗa ʿalaẙhimā kadẖā fī ạl̊kẖulāṣaẗi
“If a pregnant or breastfeeding woman fears that she or her child will be harmed, she should break her fast and (if possible) make up the missed fasts. They do not need expiation for breaking the fast. This is because it is stated in the "Summary" (source: "Fatwa of India").
Another source says:
(Wllḥạml wạlmrḍʿ When kẖạftạ Ly ạlwld AW ạlnfs) Ai lhmạ iftaar DFA llḥrj wlqwlh blessings suhoor {An Allah WD N ạlmsạfr Previous wsẖṭr ạlṣlạẗ WN Praise wạlmrḍʿ Previous} qyd bạlkẖwf bmʿny̱ gẖlbẗ ạlẓn btjrbẗ Aw Akhbar ṭbyb ḥạdẖq mslm CMA fy ạlftạwy̱ ạlẓhyryẗ Ly Mā qadãm̊nāhu ؛ liạảnãhā laẘ lam̊ takẖaf̊ lā yurakẖãṣu lahā ạl̊fiṭ̊r
That is, it is permissible for a pregnant or breastfeeding woman to break her fast if she fears harm to her child or herself. This permission is to remove the hassle. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah raised the fast (all) and half of the prayer from the traveler, and the fast (all) from the pregnant and lactating woman” (Narrated by Anas ibn Malik). The fasting of a pregnant or breastfeeding woman is associated with fear of harm. This fear is caused either by suspicion of victory or by a Muslim, skilled physician. This is how the fatwa came from Zahiriya. If a pregnant or breastfeeding woman is not afraid of harming her child or herself, she is not allowed to break the fast ”(Source: Bahrur-Raiq).
This means that a pregnant or breastfeeding woman does not fast if she knows from experience that fasting will harm her child or herself, or if an experienced, knowledgeable Muslim (religious) health worker reports it. Whenever possible he will make up for the missed days by one day each.
It should also be noted that pregnant and lactating women do not pay a ransom for not fasting. Because they are able to make up the missed fasts in the future.
Pregnant and breastfeeding women are required to fast as long as they do not harm their children or their lives. The above permissions do not apply to them. Breastfeeding women, especially those whose children have learned to eat, should be pious in this regard. Vallohu aʼlam.
