Honored Artist of Uzbekistan, People's Writer of Uzbekistan and Laureate of State Prizes Hamid Gulom was a leading poet, prose writer and playwright. Hamid Gulam was born in 1919 in Tashkent in the family of a music teacher.
After graduating from high school, he studied at the Central Asian Industrial Institute (1935–1937) and the Tashkent Pedagogical Institute (1938–1941).
Hamid Gulam is one of the most active writers in his life. He was a journalist for the former Red Uzbekistan newspaper (1938–1941), editor of the Uzbek State Publishing House, editor-in-chief and director general of the Radio Committee. He served as the head of the department and executive secretary of the current newspaper "O'zbekiston ovozi" (1944-1955). He studied at the Higher Literary Courses organized at the Gorky Institute of Literature in Moscow (1955–1956). He later became the special correspondent of Literaturnaya Gazeta for Uzbekistan (1956-1958). From 1958 to 1965 he worked as the secretary of the Writers' Union of Uzbekistan. He was the editor-in-chief of the major socio-political, literary and artistic magazine "Sharq Yulduz" (1965-1972). For many years G. He was the director of the Gulam Publishing House of Literature and Art.
Hamid Ghulam entered the literature in the mid-thirties with his poems "Our Camp", "Man", "Bright as the Sun" (1936). The young poet's work was influenced by the great representatives of Uzbek literature Gafur Gulam, Hamid Olimjon, Maqsud Shaykhzoda. He wrote poems and ballads during the war, such as "I have revenge" (1942), "Katerina" (1942), "Ukrainian winds" (1943), which expressed the spirit of patriotism and hatred of the enemy.
Hamid Ghulam's later works My Songs (1949–1956), On the Dnieper (1949), and On the Road to Victory (1952–1956) described the heroism of our people in the struggle against fascism. The two-volume novel Mash'al (1959) provides an artistic analysis of the life of the Uzbek people in the years following the October coup. The author's works "Diamond Girl" (1956), "Yazyovon" and "People of Tashkent" (1967) tell about the selfless work of Uzbek cotton growers before the war. His novels “I aspire to you” (1963) and “Purple Scent” are dedicated to the first collective farm in Mirzachol.
As an essayist and publicist, he has written on world events, the struggle for freedom of the peoples of the world, peace and international friendship, "Continents Awake", "Stories about Cuba", "Stories about Japan", "Gold", "Home", "Hiroshima". ballads ”,“ Impressions of Europe ”,“ Dawn in Algeria ”. The author's collection of memoirs "The Long Way of Vafo" was also warmly received by readers.
His works have been published in many languages. The novel "Eternity" alone has been published in half a million copies in Chinese. Hamid Gulom also translated works of A. Pushkin, M. Lermontov, V. Shakespeare, T. Shevchenko, Lope de Vega into Uzbek. His comedies on modern themes such as "The Story of Fergana", "Toshbolta Oshiq", "Marriage of a Son", "Wonderful Trade" were shown in the theaters of the republic and won the respect of the audience.
The author's two-act, five-act musical drama, The Song of Love, tells the story of a love affair between Omonniso and Rashidkhan, who lived in the XNUMXth-century city of Khotan in East Turkestan. The novel "Mashrab" is written on a historical theme.
Hamid Gulam's novel "Tashkent people" (1974) won the Republican State Prize. During the years of independence, the writer was awarded the Order "El-Yurt Hurmati".
