Education system

While the education system in South Korea is largely based on the achievements of Americans, Japanese, and Germans, the most interesting aspect is that the Koreans have adopted the best qualities of the education systems of these countries and developed their own unique teaching methods. very similar to the education system. Until the 1940s, South Korea was one of the most “uneducated” countries in the world, with 30-2000 people with higher education diplomas for a population of 3000 million, typically those diplomas obtained outside of South Korea. Today, Korea is the world leader in the number of students among the population!

Also, as in Uzbekistan, the largest Korean university has 10 to 20 faculties, the Korean faculty is called "taekhak", and educational institutions have a corresponding number of faculties and fields of study. .

South Korean universities are divided into:

  • State
  • Private

To enter a state university, you must pass an exam. In private universities, the order of student enrollment is determined independently, and testing is usually not required. Reading is taken seriously because the attitude of a future employer depends only on academic work. If you make calculations or aren’t proud of your grades, it’s a shame.

The curriculum is similar to the Uzbek curriculum, you can do the following:

  • Bachelor
  • Judiciary
  • Postgraduate
  • Doctorate

You can select a separate list of programs:

  • MBA (business administration)

The formation of South Korean universities does not imply a rigorous curriculum. You can choose 2-6 disciplines for the semester, some of which are profile. Such an approach reinforces a sense of responsibility, and there is no concept of ‘sitting on a couple’ here. Seminars are not available, lectures with them. But they don’t mean the teacher’s monotonous story. Classes can be in the form of presentations prepared by students. The teacher asks questions and encourages the audience to discuss the information. The goal is to teach students to speak in front of an audience, to continue the debate.

Another option is a discussion between students when the teacher plays the role of moderator. The evaluation system is based not on the material studied, but on the ability to understand and apply the information.

For example, after the explanation, you may be given half an hour to complete the project. This method teaches students to apply knowledge. Intermediate and final exams are also available.

In order to enter the perfect category of students in graduate school, you need to engage in development or research activities. Most importantly, go beyond the university, city, country. Important publications in international publications.

The education system in Korea allows employers to anticipate future employees. Sometimes they even make a deal with students. Such graduates are obliged to work in the company for a certain period of time and are not entitled to dismissal.

Requirements for applicants

Do you need to know Korean perfectly to read? Not required, but at least perfect knowledge of English (preferably with IELTS level, TOEFL certificates). Many lectures at universities are given in English, where you have to do your homework: presentations, research, essays and other interesting creative tasks.

You will need Korean for daily life in Korea: buy food in the store, pay for shipping, order a meal in a restaurant or cafe, ask to try on something in the store, etc. These simple everyday Korean phrases, along with greetings and thanks, are quick to learn, and they won’t be hard to master even in a phrase book.

If you have already learned Korean, it will be even better! A certificate TOPIC If (Korean Requirements Test), which is a very high score, be sure to include it in all other documents provided. At the very least, it will serve your benefit in selecting international students at the university, to the maximum, it can affect the size of your scholarship.

To enter the university, a foreign student must speak at least an intermediate level of Korean or English and have one of the language certificates with a language proficiency level:

  • TOPIC: 3 (4) level above;
  • TOEFL (ibt): above 80;
  • IELTS 5.5 is higher
  • Good grades in the diploma

Important! Depending on the educational institution, the admissions committee may request a list of additional documents! You can get detailed information about each Korean university from the study coordinators in South Korea at the World.uz office.

Tuition fees

In Korea, tuition is paid at public and private universities. Only the cost of training and additional services differ.

  • The bachelor's degree is from 4 Korean won to 000 Uzbek soums, which is around $ 000 for 32 year of study in US dollars.
  • Studying for a master’s degree is a little more expensive, at 9,000,000 won or 73,000,000 soums or $ 7600

Tuition does not include student food, accommodation, entertainment, personal expenses!

All these approximate average prices, the cost of education depends on the particular university. Our Uzbek students have a stereotype that the more prestigious the university, the more expensive the education. This rule absolutely does not work in South Korea!

For example, Seoul National University is cheaper than some provincial private universities!

Also, how can you learn for free? See scholarships or grants in South Korea below.

Accommodation and meals

The cost of accommodation and food depends on the city, as well as housing, food and personal preferences of students. Before applying, you need to make sure that the university dormitory makes room for you! Most universities do this, but there are cases where dormitories are crowded or far from the place of study (even, sometimes, in another city, if the institution has multiple branches!).

If finances allow, students can rent housing near the place of study. You can rent an apartment or house for rent. Usually you can add a few students, rent a large house with all the amenities, it is cheaper than renting a separate apartment or house.

You can eat at the university or in your own dining room, cafes, restaurants, shops such as 7eleven, in each such store you will find a place designed for a quick collar.

In most student dormitories you can not cook, accordingly, there is literally no kitchen, but throughout the dormitory there are vending machines with drinks, ice cream, rolls, varieties with boiling water, some semi-finished products. On the other hand, the kitchens will be of several types: those serving national dishes, the students dining in the ‘European way’. In the first type of university kitchens, you can often get free rice Kim-Chi, sometimes even broth. So you are unlikely to go hungry!

Recreation

South Korea has no problem with that! If you can't imagine your life without sports, music and other hobbies, say, playing regular sports training, competitions or, for example, drumming or modeling mud, then most likely you just shug with your favorite hobby at university You will not be able to continue using, but find like-minded people. Interest groups — or as they are called in Korean — tonar (dong- ali) —are available in large quantities at every university! Participation is free, and from time to time tonary participants organize vacations and even travel together. What could be the theme of the tonary? From Brazilian cuisine to mountaineering or Chinese calligraphy. The only problem you may encounter is a possible language barrier, but it is easily overcome in such a thinking environment.

Transport

South Korea's transportation system works as a well-organized mechanism, everything is clean, convenient, safe to use in full. The service staff is very polite, ready to help with any question, moreover, at airports and major railway stations, on the subway, everything will gradually be in English.

  • Buses

Public transportation in Korea is very well developed and very cheap. City buses are difficult for foreigners: all ads are in Korean only, so the main modes of transport for tourists are taxis and subways. The method of organizing bus service in each city has its own characteristics, but almost everywhere there are regular buses or Express buses.

  • Metro

There are metro stations in six cities: Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Incheon, Gwangju, Daejeon. Tickets can be purchased at the regular ticket office, as well as with vending machines. The names of the stations, the tables at the checkouts, and the tokens are repeated in English.

The subway map is usually above the ticket window. Most of the maps are in Korean, English. The numbers to the side of the station name (e.g., 800/900) indicate the fee charged from that station. You can also tell the box office the name of the station you want, which will give you the ticket you need. The yellow box next to the cash register has subway maps that you can get for free. Some stations do not offer free maps.

  • Taksi

There are many taxis in South Korea, they are cheap, clean and safe. Taxi stands are located in almost all busy areas of the city, but the car can only be parked on the street. Some types of taxis can be ordered over the phone, but you need to remember that passengers in private cars are higher than traditional taxis, many taxi drivers are in English.

In Seoul, there is a single payment system for taxis with credit cards, travel cards, which are used on subways and buses.

  • Rail transport

Railways are one of the main ways to move people in South Korea.

Korea National Railways (KORAIL) is the only railway passenger carrier in the country.

Trains of the National Railway Company connect major cities of the country. It is good to buy train tickets in advance, especially on Sundays, local holidays (since these days trains are usually packed).

The country’s main railway line is the Gyeongbu line, which connects the capital to Busan, the country’s second largest city.

  • Rent a car

If you rent a car in South Korea, you must be over 21 years old, have at least one year of driving experience, present a driver's license, passport with a valid visa. Rental offices are usually located at airports and hotels.
