According to the Global Peace Index, Iceland remains the safest country in the world, while Afghanistan became the most dangerous country in the world in 2018. Afghanistan has replaced Syria, which was considered the most dangerous country in the previous ranking. Syria, meanwhile, moved up one place to 162nd, one place ahead of the latter.
In addition to Iceland, the top ten safest countries include New Zealand, Portugal, Austria, Denmark, Canada, Singapore, Slovenia, Japan and the Czech Republic.
