Hymenoplasty - types, techniques, instructions, preparation, advantages and disadvantages

Hymenoplasty - Intimate plastic surgery performed at the request of the patient to restore the integrity of the hymen (for religious, moral and other reasons). Restoration of the hymen is performed under local or general anesthesia. Depending on the chosen technique of hymenoplasty, the rehabilitation period lasts 3-7 days, with easy, maximum discomfort. Another name for the operation is refloration.

Methods of operation

There are two types of hymen restoration: short term va long - term.

Short term the operation is applied when the desired result is required within the next 7-10 days. In this case, the parts of the hymen are simply sewn together. The operation is performed under both local and general anesthesia. Complete exhaustion usually does not occur, so the result is short-lived. Its advantages:

  • Vaginal tissue is not injured during surgery;
  • Bleeding is minimal (almost none);
  • The recovery period after surgery is short, with no pain, swelling, or discomfort.

Long term hymenoplasty involves the restoration of the integrity of the hymen due to the tissue at the entrance to the vagina. The technique of this operation is more complicated, but the integrity of the hymen is guaranteed to be restored indefinitely. It is usually performed under general anesthesia. Absorbent suture materials (polysorbate, vicryl PDS II) are used for atraumatization. Its advantages:

  • The hymen is preserved until defloration;
  • Long-term hymenoplasty provides maximum natural aesthetic results.

Disadvantages:

  • More tissue injury than short-term hymenoplasty;
  • It takes about 7 days for rehabilitation after this type of surgery;
  • Swelling, pain and discomfort may be felt in the early postoperative period.

What women often ask is - how natural are the results? Hymenoplasty uses self-absorbing suture materials. There are no traces of surgery (e.g. “threads”). The restored hymen is indistinguishable from the natural. During defloration, a woman’s emotions are maximally like her first sexual intercourse. Hymenoplasty can be performed multiple times.

Guidelines for hymenoplasty

Hymenoplasty is performed only at the request of the woman. The reason for consulting a plastic surgeon may be religious, moral, or personal in nature. Some women try to hide their sexual experience through this.

Restoring hymen may also serve psychotherapeutic purposes. By deciding on reflux, a woman draws an invisible boundary between her past and future. Such a step has a deeper psychotherapeutic effect than a long-term visit to a psychologist or psychoanalyst.

It is important to understand that the desire to have a hymenoplasty can be determined by a variety of reasons, but these motives are always personal and a woman should not tell them to a plastic surgeon.

Preparation for hymenoplasty

Virgo restoration is performed in an outpatient or inpatient setting. Hospitalization is usually not needed, but if desired and the conditions are right, the patient can stay in the clinic for a day. Hymenoplasty is mainly performed under local anesthesia (anesthesia), but if the woman is frightened and experiences severe emotional distress, the operation can be performed under intravenous sedation or anesthesia. In this case, it is recommended to stay in the hospital for one day under the supervision of medical staff.

Before the hymen is restored, the woman undergoes a standard medical examination. List of diagnostic procedures include general blood / urine analysis, blood biochemistry, detailed analysis of hemostasis system parameters, analysis for markers of viral infection (HIV, hepatitis B, hepatitis C), syphilis, electrocardiogram. The list of diagnostic procedures can be expanded with additional laboratory and instrumental methods. According to the instructions, consultation with narrow specialists will be held.

Smoking and alcoholic beverages should be completely restricted 2-3 weeks before the reflux. It is important to stop taking medications that adversely affect the function of the blood clotting system. These include most medications for pain in the head, waist, joints and during menstruation. If you are taking certain medications, tell your plastic surgeon about it during the consultation.

It is recommended to perform hymenoplasty in the middle of the menstrual cycle. If less than a week is left before the start of the next menstrual period, refloration is not performed. In such cases, the operation is rescheduled.

Guidelines against hymenoplasty

  • Inflammatory and infectious diseases of the genitals (cervicitis, colpitis), urogenital system (cystitis) and small pelvic organs.
  • Oncological disease regardless of the localization of the neoplasia.
  • Disorders of the blood coagulation system, including hemophilia and other genetic defects of the hemostasis system.
  • Rash and inflammatory process of autoimmune, infectious or allergic nature in the interstitial skin.
  • Genital herpes in the exacerbation stage.
  • Lactation, pregnancy.
  • Decompensation of endocrine or somatic pathology.
