Do you have to tilt your head back when you bleed from your nose?

This is a very common misconception. Remember! With bleeding from the nose, you should be in a sitting position, leaning slightly forward and covering the nostril with a clean napkin moistened with chlorhexidine or hydrogen peroxide. Put something cold (wet towel or bandage) on the bridge of the nose, an ice pack.

If the head is tilted back, blood can enter the stomach and cause coughing and vomiting. But most importantly, it is not possible to determine how much blood the patient is losing with this head position.
