Similarities and differences between VPN and Proxy server

SHARE WITH FRIENDS:

I had submitted a test on this topic (https://t.me/planetait/547), if the test results were good, I had no intention of writing this topic. Unfortunately, since migration does not know the difference between these two terms, I will explain it well for this reason.

VPN is a service that creates a channel between you and the site. A VPN service will create a route for you to connect to a site.

A proxy server is similar to a VPN service, the site and the server behind you. This server will handle all the traffic in addition to creating a channel for you.

Here is an example to help you better understand:
You want to buy a computer, you don’t have an acquaintance in a computer store, but your friend has an acquaintance.
Scenario 1: Your friend introduces you to that store salesperson and you talk to the salesperson face to face and buy what you need, where your friend is a VPN.
Scenario 2: Your friend buys a computer from a computer salesman friend and gives it to you, the computer salesman knows nothing about you, where your friend is in the role of Proxy server.

Yes, the example was a bit rough, but I couldn’t find a better example to explain.

Proxy server and VPN service have some commonalities:
- both can change your IP information;
- both can exchange information about you (browser version, where you connect from, etc.);
- both have paid and free services;
- both can be used legally;
- neither is a completely safe service unless you create your own.
When you say create yourself, you are setting up your own VPN and Proxy server. For example, you can use CCproxy (https://t.me/planetaitsoft/96) to create a proxy server, while for a VPN service, the ClearOS linux system is much more convenient.

The main difference is that the VPN encrypts all the traffic - all the requests you make and the responses the site returns - there is no such option on the proxy server.

☝️Many people confuse these two terms or think they are one thing, you shouldn’t be one of them.
