Ergash Fozilov (1933-2014)

Fozilov Ergash Ismoilovich (1933.10.3, Yangiyul - 2014) - linguist-turkologist. Academician of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan (2000), Doctor of Philology (1967), Professor (1976).

He graduated from the Faculty of Philology of Moscow University and at the same time the Institute of Oriental Languages ​​at the same university (1957). Junior and senior researcher at the Institute of Language and Literature of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan (1960-68), head of the department of historical and etymological dictionaries (1968-82), currently deputy director (1974-82), professor of the Faculty of Oriental Languages ​​at the University of Berlin (1982-86) ), Secretary of the Tashkent Regional Party Committee (1987-89), Deputy Minister of Higher and Secondary Special Education of Uzbekistan (1990-92).

Ergash Fozilov's scientific works are devoted to the study of Turkic languages, including the history of the formation of the Uzbek language, ways of development, grammar and vocabulary of the old Uzbek language, the study of written monuments of the 14th-15th centuries.

Ergash Fozilov is one of the authors of the 4-volume "Explanatory Dictionary of the Language of Alisher Navoi's Works" (1983-85).
