Azim Hojiev (1933.18.12, Tashkent region, Tashkent district - 2012) - linguist. Academician of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan (2000), Scientist of the Republic of Uzbekistan (2000), Doctor of Philology (1968), Professor (1977).

He graduated from the Faculty of Philology of the University of Central Asia (1956). At the Institute of Language and Literature of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, junior and senior researcher (1959-69), head of department (1969-90), deputy director for scientific affairs (1969-73; 1985-90), chief researcher (since 1998), Uzbekistan Director of the Institute of Linguistics of the Academy of Sciences (1991-98), at the same time he was the editor-in-chief of the journal "Uzbek language and literature".

Azim Khodzhiev's scientific works are devoted to the Uzbek language graphics and spelling, morphology (especially verb series) and word formation, lexicology and lexicography, terminology, haz. dedicated to the history of formation and development of the Uzbek language. “Grammar of the Uzbek language” (1-2 volumes, 1975-76), “Modern Uzbek literary language”, which has a special place in the history of Uzbek linguistics. Part 1 ”(1980), 2-volume“ Explanatory Dictionary of the Uzbek Language ”(1981),“ Lexicology of the Uzbek Language ”(1981) and other scientific works, textbooks and dictionaries were prepared with the participation of Azim Khojiev.

In order to implement the laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On the state language", "On the introduction of the Uzbek alphabet based on the Latin script", "Basic spelling rules of the Uzbek language" and "Spelling dictionary of the Uzbek language" (1995) formed with the participation of. Azim Hojiev is one of the main authors of the 5-volume "Explanatory Dictionary of the Uzbek language".
