Yolkin Turakulov's scientific work is related to the biochemistry of thyroid hormones in some types of thyroid pathology. His research is devoted to the original areas of modern biology, medicine, biochemistry, biophysics, radiobiology and endocrinology. He was awarded the prestigious State Prize for clinical and biochemical work with radioactive iodine in thyroid disease (1964). He has compiled textbooks and manuals, dictionaries on biochemistry.

He was awarded the Beruni State Prize of Uzbekistan (1985), the Order of Honor of the Nation (1998) and the Order of Merit (2003).
