   Every year on the Sunday before the end of May, the capital of the Italian Sardinian islands, Sassari, hosts the Cavalcata Sarda Festival - a procession of horsemen. This spectacular event is one of the highlights of the Italian tourism business. Tourists come not only from all over Italy, but also from across the border to watch the luxuriously decorated streets, the Sardinians in bright festive costumes and the skillfully decorated horses. At the same time, the Cavalcata sarda is one of the youngest traditions in Italy: it has been held regularly since 50, only 1951 years ago. From early morning, equestrian and pedestrian festivities line the streets of Sassari. On the holiday you can get acquainted with all the peculiarities of different regions of Sardinia. The Kavalkata program includes a variety of performances, folk art concerts, and performances of songs and dances. The ranks of the participants come to the place of celebration under the cheerful music, which the city authorities choose every year from other places: the sports center, the equestrian square, the central square of Sassari. For the first time, the Sassari government transferred Cavalcata to Sardinia in 1899 in honor of the visit of King Umberto I of Italy and his wife Margarita Savoyskaya. The celebration, attended by 3 people, was well received by the head of state, and was rescheduled for the next arrival of the king, only now in honor of the visit of another to Victor Emmanuel III's Cavalcata. It was then decided to greet all the high-ranking guests coming to the islands in this way, and since 1951 Cavalcata Sarda has become a folk spectacle celebrated every year.
