Otaniyaz Niyazi (1844-1928)

Niyazi (pseudonym; name Otaniyoz Khojaniyaz oglu, 1844 - Shovot district - 1928) - poet, composer. Father of Komiljon Otaniyozov. He studied at the Arabkhan Madrasah in Khiva.

He studied Arabic and Persian, and mastered the science of aruz. He taught at the Abdullah Madrasa in Khiva (1920). He has written in various genres of classical poetry. He composed a 3063-byte devon from his poems.

They reflected various aspects of people's lives. Niyazi closely assisted Kamil Khorezmit in creating a linear note system for Khorezm maqoms. He also composed a number of melodies.

He translated books 7-9 of Hasan Jabaruti's "Ajoyib ul-osar" ("Wonderful Monuments") from Arabic into Persian (1907). Samples of Niyazi's literary heritage are included in various collections and bayoz, which are kept at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan (inv. №120, 121, 192).
