Graduated from Central Asian State University (1946). Researcher at the Institute of Language and Literature of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan, head of the sector, deputy director (1948-55), head of the department of science and culture of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Uzbekistan (1955-56). First Secretary of the Writers' Union of Uzbekistan (1957-58, 1980-85), Minister of Culture of the Uzbek SSR (1958-59), Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the Uzbek SSR and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Uzbek SSR (1959-69, 1988-91). He served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the former USSR to Lebanon (1969-74) and Pakistan (1974-80).

Sarvar Azimov, the brother of the famous poet Hamid Olimjon, made an important contribution to the development of drama and theater in the 60s with his plays. His works "Bloody Mirage" (1961), "White Morning Song" (1962), "Beauty of the Stars" (1964) and scientific-theoretical books on literary criticism are worthy achievements of Uzbek literature. The drama "Zamon" (1968) has a special place in the work of the playwright with its ideological and artistic accuracy. The play depicts the life of foreign peoples breaking the shackles of colonialism and gaining their independence, and the struggle for national liberation spreading to the East.

In all his dramatic works, Sarvar Azimov raised important issues of the historical period that he witnessed. He enriched the Uzbek drama with new themes, new forms, new images with his works from the life of foreign peoples.

Sarvar Azimov is the author of several radio short stories.

He was awarded the International Lily of the Valley Award.
