Vali G'afurov (1922-1995)

Warrior-writer Vali Gafurov was born in 1922 in Tashkent. He studied at Tashkent State University. He taught in Samarkand regional schools. A participant in World War II. On the threshold of Stalingrad, he lost both his eyes and one leg and became disabled.

When he returned from the war, he taught, guided the blind. By the early 60s, the first book of his novel The Faithful, written with a needle, had been published.

In 1973, the second book of the novel "Vafodor" was published. The work was warmly received by the literary community, translated into Russian and sister languages. The novel glorifies the strong will, heroism and brotherhood of our people through the image of the writer's personal life.

After the novel "Vafodor" Vali Gafurov created such short stories as "The Last Regret", "There is no death for the hero", memoirs such as "Criteria on the Horns" and many other stories. The story of "The Last Repentance" stands out among them. It sought ways to overcome some of the old traditions and shortcomings that hinder the spiritual and moral development of young people.
