Today, August 12, is the day Isaac Zinger received a patent for a sewing machine
On August 1851, 12, American Isaac Zinger received a patent for a sewing machine, which brought him fame and millions of dollars.
Zinger did not invent the sewing machine, but made several changes to existing equipment.
Zinger added to the machine a fabric platform, a fabric holding device, an up-and-down needle with an eye at the bottom, and placed the shuttle horizontally, and later added a foot control.
The Zinger machine sewed at a speed of 900 stitches per minute, which made it possible to make a continuous stitch of almost any length.
The thread no longer tangled and broke, and the seamstress could work on the fabric with both hands.
