The oldest animal in the world.

The tortoise, nicknamed Jonathan, was recognized as the oldest living animal on Earth. He will turn 2022 in 190. The tortoise weighs 440 kilograms. He lives on St. Helena Island. Scholars estimate that Jonathan was born in 1832.

Records that he was brought to St. Helena Island in 1882 have survived to this day. Jonathan's contemporaries typically live an average of 50 years. The tortoise has seen 31 governors change on the island where he lives, during which time 40 presidents have changed in the United States.
Jonathan today lives under the constant supervision of veterinarians.
