Israel is a republic. There is no single constitution in the country. There are several laws that can replace it. The most important are the 1948 Law and Administrative Decree on the Establishment of the Legislative and Executive Bodies, the 1949 Provisional Law, the 1950 Law on Return, the 1952 Law on Citizenship, the 1958 Basic Law on the Knesset, and others.
The legislature is the Knesset, with 120 deputies elected by secret ballot for a four-year term.
