Paul Newman's Rolex Daytana is not only the most expensive Rolex watch ever sold, but it is also the most expensive watch ever sold in the world. It easily beat the previous record set by a 2016 Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Chronograph that sold for $11 million in 1943.
Paul Newman's opening bid for the Daytana started at $1 million, but the first bidder immediately jumped to $10 million, shocking the entire auction room at Phillips. Only two bidders competed for the watch's $17,8 million (https://luxe.digital/lifestyle/style/most-expensive-rolex/) price tag.
Although relatively well preserved, this Rolex Daytana is extremely rare and is not made of precious materials. But its unique story is of most interest to watch collectors. It was given to Paul Newman by his wife, Joanne Woodward, when she was starring in the movie "Victory".
