May 28 is Independence Day in Azerbaijan

Since 1992, the Day of Restoration of the Statehood of Azerbaijan has been celebrated annually on May 28 as a national holiday - Republic Day (Republic Day of Azerbaijan). Another name of today's holiday is the Day of Restoration of the Statehood of Azerbaijan. The holiday was established in 1918 by the National Council of Azerbaijan in honor of the solemn declaration of independence of the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan, during which the Declaration of Independence was signed in Tbilissi (now Tbilisi).

The establishment of the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan in 1918 is a bright page in the history of Azerbaijan. The following years, decades, with bright events and great achievements, form the stages of life of the country and the people of Azerbaijan. Together, they created the economic, intellectual and cultural potential of today's independent Azerbaijan. In honor of these events, one of the streets of Baku, named after the metro station, was erected on Istiglaliyt (Independence) Street with the text of the Declaration of Independence (in Latin and Arabic letters). In Tbilisi, a memorial plaque with Azerbaijani, Georgian and English inscriptions has been erected on the walls of the palace hall of the former tsar's representative in the Caucasus.
