A woman driving a car

ANSWER:

Bismillahir Rohmanir Rohim. A woman is allowed to drive when necessary, but she has her own conditions.

Scholar Dr. Wahba Zuhaili says: “Our Shari'ah does not forbid a woman from doing things that are permissible. This is permissible even if the woman is driving alone or with someone else with her. But the condition is that a woman should be within the framework of the Shari'ah in riding in a car and in other activities, and should dress in a way that is not a conspiracy against those who see her.

Dr. Abdulfattah Ashur, a teacher of al-Azhar scholars, said: “As long as a woman leaves her house in accordance with the law of Allah, there is no harm in her driving. Those who forbade it did so out of caution for women. Now, in the current environment where women are seen on an equal footing with men in various matters, the meaning of such caution is somewhat lost. What we need to emphasize is that a woman should definitely be treated with Islamic etiquette. He should not drive and go to suspicious places or to places where he and his reputation are at stake. ”

But when it comes to a woman driving a taxi and transporting people, this is not permissible in our Shari'a. After all, in this case, the woman's honor is in imminent danger.

It should also be noted that it is better not to promote it in our regions where women are not accustomed to driving. Because our religion respected women and protected them from all kinds of dangers as much as possible. The service of women should be done by their husbands, their sons by their mahrams. Women don’t have to torture themselves by driving. After that, the car on the road may break down and there may be various surprises. In addition, some unscrupulous women driving a car can touch girls.

Therefore, it is better for women not to drive when it is not necessary. Vallohu a'lam.
