Asqad Mukhtor (1920–1997)

People's writer of Uzbekistan Askad Mukhtor wrote novels “Sisters”, “Birth”, “Time is in my destiny”, “Plane”, a number of short stories, short stories and dramas, philosophical lyrics based on observations, high artistic translations from world literature. He is a great artist.

Famous poet, prose writer and playwright, translator Askad Mukhtor was born on December 1920, 23 in Fergana in the family of a railway worker. At the age of eleven, he was orphaned by his father and raised in an orphanage. After graduating, he studied at the Central Asian State University. Later he worked as the head of the department of Uzbek literature at Andijan Pedagogical Institute.

The arrival of Askad Mukhtor in Tashkent opened a new page in his personal life and creative activity. He worked in the editorial offices of the central newspapers and magazines of the republic as the head of the department, executive secretary, editor-in-chief of the magazine "Sharq Yulduzi" (1960-1965), secretary of the Writers' Union of Uzbekistan (1957). He was the editor-in-chief of Gulistan magazine and Uzbekistan Literature and Art newspaper.

In his first poems, such as Tilak, Tong edi, and Totli Damlar (1935–1938), Askad Mukhtor sought to define the purpose and mission of poetry and the poet's duty to society. He sees poetry as a "wing to the heart" and a "cure for pain."

With the outbreak of World War II, the poet wrote a series of poems, such as "Confidence in Victory", "Warrior's Night", "Rebirth is Back", "Missing", and encouraged the people to fight against the Nazi invaders. During the years of peace he wrote books of poetry "Steel Cast" (1947), "My compatriots" (1949), "Thank you, my love" (1954), "From the heart" (1956), describing the natural resources of our country, the changes in people's lives.

In the author's short stories "At the confluence of rivers" (1950), "The story of Karakalpakstan" (1958), "Demon streets of Bukhara", "Sisters" (1955), "Birth" (1963), "Time in my destiny" (1964) , Chinor (1973) and other novels, such as Amu, address important issues of our time. The book of poems “From the Heart” (1956), the call to life (1956), and the collection of short stories “Children of the World” (1962) enriched the treasury of Uzbek children's literature. Askad Mukhtor's plays such as "Peak of Courage" (1948), "Goodness to Goodness" (1949), and "Samandar" were deeply ingrained in the hearts of viewers and students.

The works of Sophocles, A. Pushkin, M. Lermontov, R. Tagore, M. Gorky, T. Shevchenko, A. Blok, V. Mayakovsky, A. Korneychuk, translated by Askad Mukhtor, became the intellectual property of Uzbek readers.

Askad Mukhtor, a lyric poet, a well-known writer and a skilled translator, made a great contribution to the development of Uzbek culture. He was awarded the title of "People's Writer of Uzbekistan" and the Republican State Prize.
