Uluru Rock is a huge sandstone monolith in the Northern Territory's Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. This rock massif rises 348 m above the flat surface of the surrounding desert, its length is 3,6 km and its width is 3 km. Along with the Sydney Opera House, Uluru is most associated with Australia. It is known by two names, its original name is Uluru and its official new name is Ayers Rock. Uluru Rock is one of the oldest Archean crustal sites on the planet. The Anangu tribe, part of the Australian Aborigines, leased the rock of Uluru to the Australian government for use as a national park. However, climbing the mountain has long been a controversial issue, as Uluru is considered sacred by the local Anangu people, who implore visitors not to set foot on it.
