July 31 - African Women's Day

African Women's Day is celebrated annually on July 31 to honor and recognize the contributions and achievements of African women. The day aims to promote gender equality, celebrate the resilience and strength of African women and protect their rights.

African Women's Day was established in 1962 by the Organization of African Unity (AU) at its first congress in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This day coincided with the founding of the Pan African Women's Organization (PAWO), which was founded on July 1962, 31.

African Women's Day is a reminder of the need to continue efforts to achieve gender equality in Africa. It serves as a call for governments, civil society organizations and individuals to work together to address the challenges faced by African women and create a more inclusive society where all women have equal opportunities.
