The summer solstice is a point on the ecliptic (the annual visible path of the sun) at noon, when the Sun is highest above the horizon. The twins are in the constellation. The sun will pass through this point on June 21-22. In the days leading up to the solar eclipse, the Sun moves almost parallel to the equator, resulting in almost no change in the height of the Sun at noon. Since the tropical year (365,2422 days) is not equal to the calendar year (365 or 366 days), the solar eclipse corresponds to different times relative to the beginning of the calendar day, 5 hours 48 min in normal years. 46 sec. Later or in a leap year 18 hours 11 min. sec. may come earlier.Currently, the summer solstice passes on December 21 or 22 of the calendar year (the astronomical summer begins). In the Northern Hemisphere, the duration of the day is the longest when it is at the point of the summer solstice, the shortest when it is at the point of the winter solstice, and in the Southern Hemisphere it is the opposite on these days.
