Identification and verification of the presence of the hymen, virginity - an examination that may be required to investigate allegations of immorality, rape or attempted rape, and sometimes slander, insults, unfair living without another person .
Examination of the hymen is carried out only on the instructions of the court or the bodies of preliminary investigation. Such examination shall not be carried out at the request of individuals.

Information

The main indicator of virginity (lot.virgo intacta) - that is, whether a girl or woman has not yet had sexual intercourse - is the integrity of the hymen.

Defloration (lat. De «removal, elimination» + flos, floris «flower, youth, virginity») - a process of violation of the integrity of the hymen. Rupture of the hymen usually occurs during the first sexual intercourse, which is accompanied by pain and bleeding (not always).

The structure of the hymen
The hymen is a layer of tissue made up of the vaginal mucosa, connective tissue and muscle fibers, veins and nerves, and the space between the vaginal vestibule (lot. Vestibulum vaginae) and its cavity. and restricts access to it.
The base of the hymen is divided into free edges (due to which a hole is formed), vaginal (upper) and outer (lower) surfaces. The curtain can have different thickness, strength, consistency and elongation levels. The width is determined by the distance from the base to the free edge (from 0,2-0,3 cm to 1-1,5 cm), the size of the curtain and the hole vary.
Sometimes the hymen is located very low, represented by a small part of the vaginal mucosa. The hymen can sometimes return to its original shape if the woman has not had sex for a long time. Moreover, in some cases, it disappears completely at birth, which complicates the examination.
The shapes of the hymen are very diverse, but often differ in two main forms, which are determined by the localization of the hole:
Ring-shaped circular in the central location of the hole;
When the hole is eccentric (usually at the top, closer to the urethra), it is crescent-shaped or sickle-shaped.
The free edge of the curtain may be flat and smooth, but sometimes natural depressions are detected in it. Depending on their number and depth, the hymen looks toothed or bushy (there are many depressions, but their depth is insignificant), fragmentary, leafy (when the depressions approach the middle of the hymen or deeper).

What are the ways to check for the presence of a hymen?

When establishing a virginity, the examination shall be carried out in accordance with the requirements of the rules adopted by the judicial authorities of the State concerned. In addition to the general examination and examination of the genitals of the person being examined, special attention should be paid to the study of the hymen.
The examination should be performed in a gynecological chair, preferably with an assistant (two specialists), because:
For some people, learning the hymn poses certain challenges;
The specialist may receive excessive accusations and complaints;
Sometimes it may be necessary to confirm that the person has been inspected, as in practice there are cases when another person comes to the inspection instead of the person being inspected.

Gynecologist examination

Using gauze pieces with the thumb and index fingers of both hands, the large labia are layered and pulled to both sides and slightly upwards. In this case, it is possible to see the elongated hymen and it looks good. Attention is paid to all the structural features of the hymen - its appearance, shape, width, thickness are determined, then its free edges are examined.
To better study the curtain, a glass plate or stick is inserted into its hole, which spreads the edges of the curtain and makes it easier to study. During the examination, bumps, irregularities, bumps, thickened areas, features of the edges, color (if the tissue is scarred after tearing, white inclusions are detected, otherwise its color will be a flat).
It is also recommended to use a magnifying glass or operating microscope. It also describes the hole of the hymen - its size, shape and other features. The hole can be from 2 to 2,5 cm in diameter. The size of the hole is measured using a special instrument - hymenometry.
When examining the hymen, a careful attempt is made to insert a finger into the hole, initially inserting it silently. If the little finger passes freely, then the index finger is inserted. If the elongation of the nail is good, an attempt is made to insert two fingers, but only the phalanx of the nail (the highest bend).
During such manipulations, the finger feels a ring of contraction in women who have not had sex before. If the hymen is intact, the covering is felt, and it is expressed to such an extent that if an attempt is made to insert the fingers deeper, the veil may be torn due to excessive elongation. Therefore, the insertion of a finger (or the nail phalanx of two fingers) should be done very carefully, as the consequences of conducting such inspections at home can be tragic.
It is not always an easy task to separate the bumps left by previous tears in the body of the hymen from the natural bumps. This requires a detailed study using a magnifying glass or other magnification method. In fact, the only reliable sign will be the feature of the edges of the identified defects:
In natural depression, the edge of the mucous layer does not change color, it is the same as the surrounding tissue.
At the site of the anterior tear, the edges are sometimes whitish due to the formation of scar tissue.
However, sometimes the scars are so thin and delicate that they differ very little from the surrounding mucous membranes.

Conclusions on determining the integrity of the hymen

If there are no lesions in the hymen, the formation of conclusions will depend on its shape and condition. In many cases, the integrity of the veil, its shape, the well-felt features of the contraction ring indicate the impossibility of sexual intercourse without injury to the hymen. This means that the subject has no sex life and is a virgin.
If the hymen is well stretched, the hole can hold 1-2 fingers, sex can occur even without compromising its integrity. The fact that the hymen has a lattice or lattice or a very small hole excludes the subject from having sex.
However, it should be borne in mind that there are also cases of sexual intercourse with ejaculation and pregnancy in the vaginal cavity.
In addition to determining the integrity of the hymen in the examination of sexual virginity, in 1940 VG Bernard proposed the use of a cervical canal test. Its essence is that during gynecological examination in women who enjoy sex or masturbate (masturbation), a significant amount of slightly grayish creamy discharge from the cervical canal. In sexually active women aged 30–35 years, this separation is grayish, watery.
In girls who do not masturbate and do not feel sexual sensations, cervical abnormalities do not occur during gynecological manipulations. The G. Bernard test may serve as an adjunct in cases where the possibility of sexual intercourse without violating the integrity of the hymen is being studied.

Can virginity be determined at home?

Before solving this problem, it is necessary to clarify a question, why it is necessary to know? Here are some reasons:
Bleeding, severe pain, as adults say;
Suspicion of membrane damage as a result of masturbation or the use of a large tampon.
In the first case it should be borne in mind that the curtain can sometimes be very thin or elastic, so that a strong discomfort is not felt in the first proximity. There is a possibility of membrane damage during masturbation, but this can only happen if foreign bodies (e.g. phalloimitator) are introduced. It is almost impossible to damage the membrane by stimulating the clitoris.
If in doubt, it is necessary to consult a proper gynecologist, because the hymen can not be detected at home, moreover, a non-specialist can, on the contrary, deepen the problem.
