- Only 50% of the country's indigenous people are Malaysians. Of the remaining 50 percent, 23 percent are Chinese and the remaining 7 percent are Indians. The people of Malaysia officially practice Islam. 61% of the population are Muslims, the rest are Christians, Buddhists and Hindus.
- Unlike other countries, no one knows the exact date of the elections in Malaysia. The Malaysian Constitution provides for parliamentary elections at least once every five years. However, the prime minister can announce election day at any time.
