Today, January 9, is the day of the signing of the Yassi Peace Treaty

The Treaty of Yassi was a peace treaty signed between Russia and the Ottoman Empire on January 1792, 9, ending the Russo-Turkish War of 1787-1791.

The negotiations took place in the city of Iasi, Moldavian principality. By the Russian Empire, Prince G.A. Potemkin and after his death - Prince A.A. Bezborodko was attended by Yusuf Pasha, Grand Minister of Turkey.

The agreement was signed on behalf of Russia by Samoilov, de Ribas and S.L. Foreign Minister Abdullah Efendi, Ibrahim Ismet Bey and Mehmed Efendi signed on behalf of Lashkarev and Turkey.

According to the agreement, the entire Northern Black Sea region, including Crimea, was transferred to Russia, and Russia's political positions in the Caucasus and the Balkans were strengthened.

The lands between the Southern Bug and the Dniester were transferred to Russia, along which a new border was established. In the Caucasus, the border along the Kuban River was restored.
