It was established by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. 2012 of June 4, 1771 on the basis of the Tashkent State Institute of Culture and the Uzbek State Institute of Arts.

At 3 faculties and 18 departments of the institute students study in 30 directions and 8 specialties. The institute trains specialists in the field of acting and directing, art and theater studies, sound directing and cinematography, folk art, management of cultural and art institutions.
