 Kidney failure
Nephroptosis is a fall of the kidneys (that is, a downward movement). Congenital nephroptosis is caused by weakness of the renal ligaments, while acquired nephroptosis is caused by injury, sometimes as a result of very short-term weight loss or weakening of the abdominal wall muscles after pregnancy. In the first stage, the lower part of the kidney is caught (in a healthy person, the kidney does not move), in the second stage, the kidney is completely removed, and in the third stage, it is pushed in all directions. In the early stages of nephroptosis, the patient may feel almost nothing. Only from time to time (especially after a lot of walking or running) there is pain in the kidneys, abdomen, umbilical cord, lumbar or bladder.
Later, the renal vessels become more elongated and narrower. As a result, the blood supply to the kidneys deteriorates. Now the patient begins to complain not only of increased pain, but also of repeated (even at the level of a kidney puncture) discomfort and discoloration of urine. Urine analysis revealed an increase in protein and erythrocytes. The third stage of the disease is accompanied by complications such as nephrogenic hypertension (increased blood pressure due to kidney disease) and bloody urine.
Treatment of nephroptosis is carried out conservatively (without surgery) and operatively. The conservative method helps in the first place, it is to wear a bandage, to strengthen the abdominal wall. As a result, it is planned to restore the kidneys by increasing the pressure in the abdomen. The bandage should be wrapped from the bottom of the abdomen to the top, squeeze the abdominal wall evenly, put it on in the morning, take off in the evening before going to bed. Prolonged use of the bandage leads to weakening of the abdominal wall muscles. Therapeutic exercise, morning exercise, swimming are very useful.
In the method of surgery (nephropexy) the fallen kidney is placed on itself and strengthened so that it does not fall again. This method is more effective if it is performed before the onset of complications of nephroptosis.
