What is the importance of vitamin D for the child's body?

The child grows rapidly in the first years of life. The body needs calcium and phosphorus for bone growth. Vitamin D regulates the intestinal absorption of calcium and phosphorus in the body, their delivery to bone, muscle and other organ tissues. If there is a deficiency of vitamin D in the body, the child's need for calcium and phosphorus is not met. The disease is more likely to develop in children born in late autumn and winter. This is because vitamin D is produced in the body under the influence of the sun's ultraviolet rays. There will not be enough sunlight for a baby born in these seasons. Therefore, the doctor recommends vitamin D for children born at this time.

What are the consequences of vitamin D deficiency?

  • Bone softening;
  • muscle, joint relaxation;
  • decreased immunity;
  • leads to the development of anemia.

As a result, the child:

  • cannot hold his head and body for long;
  • the rash softens and wears off very slowly;
  • teeth begin to erupt too late or irregularly;
  • remains susceptible to various infectious diseases.
  • the forehead of the head is pushed forward and the neck is pushed back;
  • the spine bends;
  • the thorax widens downwards;
  • the leg bends in an “X” or “O” shape;
  • flat feet may develop in children.

How to detect the presence of rickets in children?

Initially:

  • the child's sleep is disturbed;
  • the child sweats a lot;
  • impressions such as an unfamiliar sound or the lighting of a lamp also frighten the child;
  • rash on the body;
  • rubs his head a lot on the pillow;
  • the hair on the nape of the head is shed in the form of a passage;
  • the child becomes restless and capricious.

To the attention of mothers!

If you don't want my child to get sick:

  • prepare from pregnancy. Of course, walk in the sun every day;
  • try to get your child to eat foods rich in vitamin D every day, including beef, especially fish, eggs and liver products;
  • of course, consume calcium-rich foods. These include milk and dairy products, parsley, sorrel, beans, dates, green onions;
  • care for the baby up to 6 months only with breast milk. From this, of course, the mother should consume foods rich in vitamin D. The more vitamin D is produced in the mother's body, the more it is produced in breast milk;
  • prepare additional food for the child from foods rich in vitamin D and calcium;
  • take the child outside every day;
  • accustom the child to sun and air baths. The best time for this is between 10 and 12 in the morning. These methods not only strengthen the child, but also increase the production of vitamin D in the body.

Attention! The use of vitamin D supplements is not recommended if it is hot and sunny outside during the summer. Under the influence of ultraviolet light, vitamin D is produced in the skin. It is not necessary to leave the child in the sun, it is enough if the clothes are more exposed.
