Uchkun Nazarov (1934-2016)

Writer, playwright and film director Uchkun Nazarov was born in 1934 in Tashkent. He studied directing at the Tashkent Institute of Theater and Art. He began his career as the director general of the Hamza Drama Theater in Kokand, and later worked as a film director.

He was first known to readers for his story People (1961). In those years, Abdulla Qahhor included Olmas Umarbekov's story "Boboyongoq" and Uchkun Nazarov's story "Odamlar" among the best works of young people. Since then, Uchkun Nazarov's collections of short stories "Pride" (1965), "Courage" (1977), "Loyalty" (1965) have been published. Uchkun Nazarov was popular with readers with his stories "Confession", "People", "Pride". His great work - the novel "Year of the Scorpion" was also warmly received by students.

Uchkun Nazarov also created a number of plays, his play "Mirror" (1977) was staged by the author at the Academic Drama Theater named after Hamza.

He was also a prolific filmmaker and screenwriter. His feature films such as "Surayyo", "Girl and Boy", "Violence", "Fiery Beach" and "The Story of Kokand" in three parts have attracted the attention of the audience. For his last film, he was awarded the 1977 Hamza Republican State Prize. He is also an Honored Artist of Uzbekistan.

Uchkun Nazarov died on June 2016, 17 in Tashkent.
