Can echinococcosis be transmitted to children from dogs?

Echinococci are parasites belonging to the family of cestodes, and parasitic cysts appear mainly in the liver, lungs, kidneys, brain and other organs of the affected person.

The main source of the disease and the main host of the pathogen are dogs. The disease is mainly transmitted to children from dogs.

Ripe eggs are released into the environment with animal feces. The disease can be transmitted to children by direct contact, that is, during stroking or caressing, or by eating greens or fruits contaminated with parasite eggs and drinking contaminated water.

❗️Measures to prevent the disease:
- prevent children from being in contact with animals, especially dogs.
- washing hands thoroughly with soap before eating, following the rules of personal hygiene.
- it is recommended to wash greens and fruits and drink boiled water.
