The nights from December 21 to December 22 will be the shortest day and the longest night (17 hours). This longest and darkest night of winter is called Yaldo night. They sang ghazals, recited bahri-bytes, held poetry readings, danced, sang songs, played dutar-doira, and entertained the audience. Yaldo nights were also held in the neighborhood teahouses. Tourists, foreigners, scientists, poets and poetesses took part in such talks. People learned the news happening in the world from their conversations. Folk singers came to the game, singing songs such as "Gulyorahon-gulyora". Yaldo night is also called Valentine’s Night because it is the longest night. Yaldo also emphasized the night in oriental poetry. Tonight, the lovers presented their friends with gifts and sweets.
