Hair loss

Hair loss is a natural process. Every day a person loses 60-100 strands of hair. Usually, the number of newly grown and shed hair is the same, but under certain conditions, the amount of hair shed increases. If hair loss is of a general nature, it can lead to baldness.

The average lifespan of hair is 7 years, in the early stages it becomes thin and slender and then begins to grow actively, and this period lasts 2-7 years. Then comes the catagen phase, which is the stage of preparation for shedding, and it lasts 2-4 weeks. Finally comes the stage of hair loss, which takes 3-4 months, depending on the depth of the follicle (hair root, hair follicle). Therefore, if hair loss has been observed in excess of natural hair loss, then the cause should be seen from factors three months ago.

Causes and clinical manifestations of hair loss

Internal factors

Although the causes of baldness and hair loss are different, in both cases a person loses a large amount of hair. One of the most common causes of hair loss is a lack of the trace element iron in the body. Women often suffer from iron deficiency anemia due to natural menstrual blood loss during menstruation, and its first clinical manifestation is felt exactly on the nails, skin and hair.

High physical activity, unbalanced diet and strict diets for weight loss can lead to the development of anemia (anemia). However, the hair becomes colorless, dry and brittle, and if the anemia is not treated, the hair loss process will only intensify.

Stressful situations and disorders of the autonomic nervous system lead to narrowing of the blood vessels in the scalp. In the case of prolonged stress, the blood vessels do not return to normal, which leads to hair loss as the nutrition of the hair follicle deteriorates.

People with chronic diseases of the body, especially endocrine diseases, often complain of hair loss. Diseases such as thyroid disease, polycystic testicles, pneumonia and syphilis (trauma) can lead to hair loss. Therefore, although the problem is more aesthetic, all patients with similar symptoms should undergo a comprehensive examination.

External factors

Taking certain medications has side effects that can lead to hair loss. There are about a hundred drugs with this effect, mainly oral contraceptives, antidepressants, hypotensive and steroid drugs. Aspirin, while seemingly harmless, often causes hair loss as a result of constant intake.

Preparations containing heavy metal salts and selenium do not have a good effect on the hair, and the absorption of vitamins and minerals is impaired, as such drugs have a diuretic effect. Therefore, hair loss in this condition is associated with chronic poisoning and anemia with heavy metal salts.

Dyeing hair, chemical wrapping, excessive drying with a hair dryer (hair dryer) can lead to hair loss. Prolonged use of hair wigs, bangs, and improper use of hair or scalp care products can lead to a variety of problems.

Neglecting your hair when wearing hats in the cold season and abusing caffeinated beverages can lead to constant spasm of the blood vessels in the scalp, which can lead to malnutrition of the hair follicles.

Often, patients who have had a hair transplant pay attention to the loss of hair that has been transplanted. This is a normal reaction of the body, the follicles transplanted to a new location, experience stress, and after a short break, hair continues to grow.

Diagnosis and detection of hair loss

Hair loss will not go unnoticed. While alopecia (baldness) is mainly observed in men, women often have problems with hair loss.

An important difference of alopecia from normal hair loss is that no pathology of the hair follicle is observed in hair loss. Therefore, the process of hair loss is always restored, regardless of the stage of development. When the tip of the hair is examined closely, a dark sac can be seen - which is not a good sign. If more than five strands of hair remain in the hand when pulling the hair, this indicates that the hair loss is much higher than normal.

In some cases, excessive hair loss is not due to disease or external causes. During hormonal changes in the body, hair loss may increase, after which they return to normal. Such periods include the postnatal period of the child from 3 to 6 months, the puberty period, the postpartum period, the termination of pregnancy, and the period before menopause.

A trichologist’s advice is needed to determine the cause of hair loss. This includes extensive analysis, which includes blood tests, hormonal background analysis, spectral analysis of the hair, and tests to rule out alopecia.

Hair loss treatment and hair restoration

The condition of the skin, nails and hair reflects the internal condition of the body, so the primary cause of this process should be eliminated when hair falls out. Factors that are harmful to the hair should not be used during treatment, such as blow-drying, hair dyeing. It is also not recommended to use hairspray, mousses and gels.

Once the hair loss process is over, it will take some time for the follicles to recover so that the hair can start growing again. Restoration of growth during the hair loss phase is aimed at eliminating the root causes, followed by the application of various hair growth stimulants. If the hair falls out due to medications and they cannot be reversed, it is possible to replace them with other types of medications that have such an effect at the doctor’s discretion.

Eliminating iron deficiency anemia, treating primary diseases that occur in Turkey, and at the same time improving the main blood circulation gives good results.

Effective treatments for hair loss used in modern trichology include scalp massage and hardware treatments. Their effect is based on stimulating hair growth and reducing their hair loss.

Therapeutic treatments

Microtoxic therapy allows the follicles to be exposed to electricity and the active ingredients are injected under the skin. The current voltage in therapeutic physiotherapy is very low, so they do not harm health and do not cause unpleasant feelings.

During vacuum massage, small cups are placed on the scalp and this creates a pulsating vacuum. The treatment improves blood circulation, stimulates follicles and ensures good nutrition of hair that is in the growth phase.

By delivering substances under the scalp that stimulate hair growth and reduce hair loss, mesotherapy improves tissue microcirculation, reduces hair loss, and improves metabolism in hair follicles.

It is possible to stop hair loss by normalizing the activity of internal organs and taking care of the scalp and hair. Often, newly grown hair is stronger and more durable than thinning hair.

If hair loss is the result of chemotherapy or light therapy, their structure and color may change after the hair grows back.

Prevent hair loss

Hair loss prevention methods are aimed at supporting overall health. A healthy lifestyle helps to do this closely. In addition, the following recommendations should be followed:

  • Consumption of proteins. Since hair is made up of protein, it is important to make sure that they are present in sufficient amounts in the daily diet.
  • Vitamins and trace elements. Iron, calcium, zinc and vitamin B not only have a positive effect on hair growth, but also play an important role in preventing their hair loss.
  • Not to lose weight fast. Strict diets and rapid weight loss can have a shock effect on split hair follicles, which can negatively affect hair fiber growth as a result.
  • Another approach that is no less important than the above. Excess fat in the hairy part of the head promotes the growth of yeast fungi. They in turn break down fats into fatty acids, thus having an irritating effect on the scalp. In this case, both frequent washing and prolonged non-washing have a negative effect.

At the same time, most people forget the accompanying factors. In particular, factors that have a damaging effect on the hair should be avoided. An example of this is wrapping the hair in excess and leaving it in this position for a long time. Strict wiping with a towel, frequent drying with a blow dryer can also damage the hair. The impact of these factors should be limited to a minimum.
