Hamid Sulaymonov (1910-1979)

Hamid Suleymanov (1910.5.5 - Tashkent - 1979.8.6) - literary critic, textologist. Honored Scientist of Uzbekistan (1964). Doctor of Philological Sciences (1961), Professor (1971).

Graduated from the Moscow Institute of Cinematography (1932). Teacher of the Tashkent Pedagogical Institute, head of the department and associate professor of Tashkent State University (1935-50). Repressed in the 50s. Elegant in the 60s. He was the head of the sector of the Institute of Language and Literature of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan (1962-67), director of the Museum of Literature named after Alisher Navoi (1967-69) and the Institute of Manuscripts (1978-79).

His main scientific activity is devoted to textual research of Alisher Navoi's lyrics. He compiled a bibliography of Navoi's manuscripts (1946-47) and found the manuscripts of the poet's devons "Badoe ul-bidoya", "Navodir un-nihoya" (1959), proving that they were composed by the poet. He compiled and published a critical text "Khazayn ul-Maoniy" (1958-60). He found the manuscripts of "Devoni Foniy" (from France) and published them on the basis of photocopies (1965).

Hafiz brought a photocopy of Khorezmi's two-volume "Devon" from Hyderabad (2, India) to Tashkent (1975) and published the preface (1977).

He has written scholarly works on calligraphy and book art. He compiled and published the albums "Paintings for Boburnoma" (1959), "Paintings for the works of Navoi" (1980, in collaboration with F. Suleymanova), "Paintings for the works of Amir Khusrav" (1983, in collaboration with F. Suleymanova).

He led the establishment of literary museums and the Institute of Manuscripts in Tashkent, Andijan, Kokand, Samarkand, Jizzakh. Laureate of the Beruni State Prize of Uzbekistan (1979).

One of the streets in Tashkent is named after Hamid Suleymanov.
