The largest animal in the world

Scientists believe that dinosaurs lived on Earth in very ancient times. Dinosaurs were several times larger than modern animals. But today the largest animal on Earth is the blue polosatik. The color of this whale is blue, the skin of the abdomen is layered and folded. It is 30 meters long and weighs an average of 125 tons. Surprisingly, the head of a polosatik occupies almost a third (!) Of the body.

The size of the whales is obvious, not surprising. Interestingly, whales do not belong to the class of fish, but to the class of mammals. According to researchers, the ancestors of whales and other aquatic mammals lived on land in ancient times. This is why they have abnormal marks on their bodies.

Most whales feed their young on milk. On the other hand, whales are not made from caviar like fish, but are born alive and follow their mother for a long time. Whales do not have gills, so they breathe through their lungs. The fins on the tail help it to rise quickly from the bottom of the water. The circulatory system, skeleton, and internal organs of whales are markedly different from those of fish.

As whales become accustomed to aquatic life, their bodies undergo a number of changes. Mammals are warm-blooded - high-temperature animals. This means that they need to maintain a normal body temperature. For this reason, there is a layer of fat under the skin of the whale. It's like a special device that keeps the temperature at a certain level. In large whales, the subcutaneous fat layer reaches 40-50 cm.

The whale's head has two holes - a "nose", which makes it easier to breathe. When the whale dives, the holes are closed with small caps. As a result, the airways connected to the oral cavity are closed. Thus, living underwater poses little difficulty or danger to whales. They can stand on the bottom of the water for 45 minutes without breathing.
