June 3 is Montenegro's Independence Day

On June 3, Montenegro celebrates its national holiday - Independence Day or the day Montenegro was declared a state. Like Independence Day on May 21, this national holiday is also a public holiday, with a variety of interesting, solemn and entertaining events. On June 2006, 3, the Montenegrin Parliament declared the independence of Yugoslavia from Serbia. The announcement was made on the basis of a referendum held on May 21, 2006, with 55,5% of the electorate voting for independence. Parliament also passed a resolution on a new constitution for a sovereign state. It described Montenegro as an independent, democratic, and civil state. Montenegro's goal was to quickly join the European Council (EES) and NATO. Such rapid action was one of the main reasons for the declaration of independence. In mid-June, Montenegro was recognized by many countries and international organizations. On June 28, Montenegro became the 192nd member of the UN. Although the official Serbian government did not attend the celebration, Serbian President Boris Tadic sent a congratulatory telegram. Montenegro became the last sovereign state of the Republic of Yugoslavia.
